Jerry Douglas in Tommy Leach Wilhelm built super waits to qualify at the 1974 Oklahoma City NCRA Race On July 21. Editors note: After temperatures in 110+ degree range Bud Carson elected to not have heat races. Jerry didn't quailfy quick enough to make the main and would have to make it through the B-Main and make it he did. Winning the hard fought B ahead of Ron Fowler, Earnest Jennings and Eugene Hair. Jerry would start from 20th position and finish the NCRA Main in 8th just ahead the drivers he beat in the B, Fowler and Jennings. They were all just behind Eugene Hair from the B also who crash after Jay Woodside who had been leading blew a water hose. I can just imagine in my mind Hair, Douglas, Fowler and Jennings almost trashing the field from the back of the A. It was just probably one of those classic races at the OKC Fairgrounds.
