The track last week was perfect and two drivers, Tiger Bob Williams and Jerry Weld, made the most of it by setting new track records. Bob Williams hung up a new 4 lap record in the trophy dash of 52.11. Not content with that achievement, he went on to win the 35-lap feature, his second of the season. He also had third fastest time and won the dash. Jerry set a new record of 12.61 for 1-Lap in the time trial taking the honor away from his younger brother, Kenny. Jerry finished second in the A feature and the trophy dash and third in the fast car heat. A later starting time plus more water and calcium and a lot of hard work by Bud Roeder track maintenance foreman, put the track in the best condition in a long time. The last few weeks the track has been in a dry slick condition for the feature, due to the hot evening sun drying out the river bottom gumbo of which the track is constructed. Behind Jerry in the feature came Ed Levitt, Jim McMurray, Dale Moore, Roger Lane, Ed Fitzgerald and Nick Allen. Levitt ,was going for his third straight feature but ran into trouble in a pile-up that also involved Jud McFarland, and Ray Lee Goodwin. It was a bad night for Ken Williams, the Point leader, who for the second straight failed to score any points. He was unable to get started in the feature because of mechanical troubles. Gene Genntten, driving the No. 85 while his 300 is being rebuilt, had fourth fastest time and placed third in the dash. That's as far as he got. Jay Woodside, the national champion, won the semifinal, after edging out Charlie Shinkle in the closing laps. Shinkle finished second ahead of Dale McDaniels, Al Manning, Virgil Newman, Ron Piatt, Stan Borofsky and Dale McCarty. Bob Burns set second fastest time of 12.93 and finished fourth in the dash. Dennis Roberts captured the first heat. Piatt was second and Ben Hollofield third. McDaniels won the second heat by outrunning Doc Waters and Woodside. Ken Baker, Fitzgerald and McMurray finished in that order in the third heat. Levitt fought off determined bids by Al Murie to win the fast car heat.
