Rick Salem races his 100" 302 carb. super modified with Al Unser Jr. at Erie Colorado. Rick relates he actually did pretty darn good and won his heat race. This was is first taste of the sprint cars and was hooked after that. I guess that is probably why we didn't see Rick back racing with the supers around Kansas soon after that. Photo #1176 From the collection of Rusty Manning A great shot of Evart Isaac #8 Parson's car at lawton. I'm not sure what year this might have been and who the driver was Photo #1177 From the collection of Rusty Manning Jerry Stone at the Wichita Falls NCRA Race in 1978. Photo #1179 From the Jay Woodside Collection Jay Woodside at the Hutchinson Nationals in 1976. This would be Jay's last race in 76. Jay was diagnosed with M/S. Jay would battle back and race again. Jay finished 3rd in NCRA Points that year with 7 out of 10 races run. Photo #1189 Photo contributed and taken by Mike Howard Two masters of the Kansas State Fairgrounds 1/2 Mile. Frank Lies #56 on the inside of Harold Leep #76. This is probably from 1977. Note from Warren: This was the first heat race. Fred Hembree would win. Harold would blow an engine. Frank blew his engine crossing the finish line for 2nd. Frank's crew acutally changed an engine but time just wouldn't let them get the timing set right. He fell in line as the cars in A Main were going down the backstretch getting ready for the green. He only lasted a couple of laps. Photo #1227 For more pages check the Home Page. |
