I assume the #31 is Roger Thompson from Junction City, KS, the #84 is Rolland Crocker from Salina, KS, the #18 is Francis Hoppenstead from Manhattan, KS, the #89 is Dick Bloom from Wichita, KS, and the 97X is Bob Ballard from Muskogee OK.

Harold Leep from Wichita, KS drove the Ray Cates #2 to victory in the 1972 Hutch Nationals. Harold had already won the Hutch Nationals twice in 1961 and 1967.

A young Jon Johnson from Utica KS in the #86. Jon has probably been in every Hutch Nationals since. Jon competed in the 2001 nationals and his son CJ won the 2001 nationals.

Randy Jones from Jetmore KS quailfied 5th for the 1974 Hutch Nationals in the Dick Rhea #9. I'm not sure what this trophy was for, but it appears to be from 1972.

Three Critical in Racing Holocast.
One of the most common e-mails I get is about the 1974 Hutch Nationals fire. Well I have finally found my clippings. I new I had them. So here some are. The darkest day in the history of the Hutch Nationals. Although there have been some other tragic days. I think most fans will admit July 28,1974 ranks up there as one of worst in the area.
