I've been looking at all your great pictures & also going back in time reading old NCRA race results (off the O'Reilly's site) & reminiscing over championship winners of the past 25 years or so, of which my brother Ferris Collier was so much a part of. 2003 has been such a tough year for us here in OKC with the passing of greats like Ronnie Brotherton & DE (Gene) Suggs. Racing in OKC is just not the same without the cars Ferris drives/drove & such great drivers coming to town like my ol' friend Larry McDaniels and so many others out of that era. Had I known then what I know now, I certainly would have made it out to MORE races other than just OKC & Enid, and infrequent trips to races at Tulsa, Pocola, Muskogee, Missouri (like Springfield, Bolivar, Sedalia, & Rolla), Arkansas, etc. I regret never getting to see a race at Hutch or anywhere in Kansas for that matter. Ferris hasn't been able to race much since he & Judy's accident down in Dallas/FW in March 2001 at the Nascar Winston Cup races where Judy was so badly injured in the freak accident. It's a great site you have & thanks for all the great pics & awesome memories many of us are thrilled to be able to go to online & revisit! Working for AOL, I can be reached in OKC at: [email protected]

It is good to see Bill Street's picture on lap 4 of the ARK/OK Border cars. Bill just retired from driving, running his last race on 9/27/03 at Joplin 66 Speedway. He finished the season second in late model points at age 62!!!

The last I heard is that they have one more season at State Fair Speedway in OKC, but after that it is up in the air. Now, if they think there will be no more racing at the fairgrounds after 2004, then lets throw a big Goodby-Bash at the speedway, and have all of the racers that has race there past and present, come and the biggest parties that OKC has ever seen, if Lanny Edwards doesn't want to promote it anymore I would be happy to take over.

For me memories are far better than the present --- or the future.

Looking for pictures of 71 Speedway in Neosho, Missouri during the 60's
My wife and I recently purchase a portion of property that was the old 71 speedway. The original site was 80 acres purchased by my wife's father and uncle from the second owners of the track in 1978. The uncle sold off his portion of the property, while my father in law made it into a home and barns. We own the portion including the track, and what use to be the concession stand, ticket stand, and bathrooms. Unfortunately, we do not have any pictures of the track as it existed prior to my father in law changing it. We are looking for old pictures of the track and race car drivers who raced there for our house. Please e-mail me if you have any ideas.
Thanks,
Rosen Rennie

Really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I saw my first dirt track race, "Modified Jalopies" in 1964 at Hutchinson. I became enthralled with the "Edmunds" cars and still am. I collect old model cars and my favorite items are my Monogram Super Modified cars. I am always looking for more.
